Actor Shia LaBeouf, 39, was arrested in New Orleans early Tuesday after an altercation outside a bar during Mardi Gras celebrations, authorities said.
The New Orleans Police Department said officers were called to the 1400 block of Royal Street in the French Quarter at approximately 12:45 a.m. on February 17 in response to a simple battery report. Police said LaBeouf was causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a Royal Street business.
According to the police statement, a staff member at the establishment attempted to remove LaBeouf from the bar. Once outside, the actor allegedly struck one of the victims with closed fists several times. Police said LaBeouf then left the scene but returned and became even more aggressive, according to the police report.
Two adult male victims reported being assaulted. Video obtained by media outlets showed the aftermath of the incident, with LaBeouf being held down on the ground by multiple people at the scene. Paramedics attended to him at the location.
The New Orleans Police Department said LaBeouf is facing two counts of simple battery. He was taken into custody and held without bail pending a court appearance. Police did not report whether other individuals were arrested in connection with the incident.
LaBeouf is known for roles in the "Transformers" film franchise and "Fury." In recent years, he has faced multiple legal and personal difficulties. Last year, he reached a settlement with singer FKA Twigs following a legal dispute in which she had sued him alleging sexual assault and abuse.
