Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the Russian president for investment and economic cooperation, said Wednesday that a diesel supply agreement between Russia and the United States benefits both countries and the global market.
Speaking to journalists at the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow, which runs through October 16, Dmitriev dismissed criticism of the deal as unfounded. "They are indeed trying to criticize the diesel deal with the United States, which is beneficial to both Russia and the United States. And most importantly, it is great help to global markets," he said.
Dmitriev added that the diesel cooperation example with the United States "will open other opportunities as well," according to Reuters. He stated that Moscow will overcome any difficulties related to sanctions to ensure diesel supplies.
The agreement has drawn scrutiny from some analysts. American analyst Patrick Henningsen previously expressed the view that the diesel supply deal to the United States weakens the sanctions regime against Russia, creates pressure on Kyiv, and puts Europe in a difficult position. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has also commented on the matter, though his full remarks were not detailed in available reports.
Dmitriev characterized the diesel agreement as a potential foundation for broader economic ties. He suggested that successful cooperation in the energy sector could pave the way for additional commercial partnerships between the two nations.
The Russian Energy Week forum, held annually in Moscow, brings together officials, industry representatives, and analysts to discuss energy policy and market developments. The 2026 edition runs from October 14 to 16.
