Copenhagen Airport, Denmark's busiest air traffic hub, was temporarily closed on Sunday evening due to the sighting of several drones in the surrounding airspace. The incident led to a suspension of all take-offs and landings.

Police confirmed that between two to three large drones were observed in the area around the airport. Flights were halted from approximately 8:30 PM local time, with authorities unable to provide an immediate estimate for when operations would resume.

A statement from the police indicated that the airport was "currently closed for take-off and landing" as the situation was being assessed. The nature of the drones and their origin remain unclear.

The closure comes amidst heightened concerns over airspace security in Europe. Earlier in the week, Polish and Estonian authorities reported incursions into their airspace by Russian military aircraft. In response to these incidents, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Warsaw was "ready for any decision to shoot down flying objects when they violate our territory and fly over Poland." The UK's Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper echoed this sentiment, saying London would "deal with it" if it faced incursions into NATO airspace.

These developments have intensified diplomatic tensions, with Russia dismissing the accusations as "unfounded" and part of a "completely unbridled line of escalating tension." United States Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, has pledged that the U.S. and its allies would "defend every inch of the Alliance's territory."
