Fiorello responded to Andrea Pucci on Thursday's episode of "La Pennicanza," his program on Rai Radio 2, after Pucci criticized an imitation the Sicilian showman had performed of him.
Pucci received a golden tapir award from "Striscia la notizia" on Thursday evening, a satirical award given by the program for his withdrawal from co-hosting duties at the Sanremo Festival following controversy. When asked by the program's correspondent Valerio Staffelli about Fiorello's imitation, Pucci responded sarcastically: "He crowned his career doing my imitation. Come on Fiore, don't give up, wake up at four in the morning, enjoy life a bit more."
Fiorello opened Thursday's episode of "La Pennicanza" with a monologue-song performed in the style of Bad Bunny, addressing the criticism directed at him. In the musical piece, Fiorello referenced the tensions that have arisen from his recent sketches on the program, saying "I'm the Italian Bad Bunny, everyone has it out for me. Since there's been the pennicanza, everyone has it out for me, there's a bit of touchiness."
Fiorello commented on his exchange with Pucci, stating: "Mamma mia how they complain. Making someone angry who does the same job as me means I deserve the gold medal."
The imitation Fiorello performed on February 9 featured a comedic monologue in which he depicted Pucci in a shower scene with his wife. The sketch included offensive language and was shared on social media and official Rai accounts, becoming widely circulated online.
Pucci addressed the broader controversy surrounding his Sanremo withdrawal during his encounter with "Striscia la notizia." When asked about allegations involving a Celtic cross, Pucci stated: "Those who said I had a Celtic cross in the dressing room should prove it with documents," despite the image being available online for some time, according to the program's website.
Regarding his withdrawal from Sanremo, Pucci told the program: "My comedy has become far-right, so it can't be heard anymore," commenting on the nature of the criticism he faced.
Fiorello has previously mentioned on "La Pennicanza" that his recent sketches have created tensions with various figures, including a friend who no longer speaks to him and several celebrities who became upset over his material about other personalities.
