Flamengo announced the dismissal of coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday, March 3, immediately following the team's 8-0 victory over Madureira in a Campeonato Carioca semifinal match. The win qualified Flamengo for the championship final against Fluminense.
Director José Boto communicated the dismissal to Luís shortly after the coach's post-match press conference. According to reporting, Luís was taken by surprise by the decision, which he had not anticipated. Club president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, conveyed the orders without providing substantial justification.
Assistant coach Ivan Palanco and fitness coach Diogo Linhares also departed the club as part of Luís's coaching staff. The squad had already left the Maracanã stadium when the dismissal was announced, leaving no opportunity for a formal farewell.
Luís had managed Flamengo across 101 matches since assuming the role in the second half of 2024, following the departure of Tite. Under his tenure, the club compiled 63 victories, 23 draws, and 15 defeats. During his time in charge, Flamengo won the Campeonato Carioca, Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa Libertadores, and Supercopa Rei. The team also reached the Intercontinental Cup final but lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
In late 2025, Flamengo had agreed to renew Luís's contract through the end of 2027. Relations between the coaching staff and club leadership had grown strained, with friction emerging during the contract renewal process and intensifying through recent demands placed on the coach.
