Finland's women's ice hockey team has been affected by a norovirus outbreak during the Winter Olympics, raising questions about the team's participation in its opening match of the ice hockey tournament.

At least four players fell ill and were immediately isolated to prevent further spread of the virus, which is considered highly contagious. The coaching staff decided not to disclose the identities of the infected athletes. Roommates of the affected players were also placed in quarantine and prohibited from leaving the team's accommodation in the Olympic Village.

Maarit Valtonen, the physician for Finland's delegation, stated that all containment measures are being implemented. "All contact is being avoided at this moment," she said, noting that the clinical condition of the athletes is under control. "It is a difficult illness, but we are familiar with it. The most important thing is to monitor the condition of the players."

The outbreak emerged just before Finland's scheduled opening match against Canada in the women's ice hockey competition at the Winter Olympics.
