Iran's Revolutionary Guard kills six militants in Zahedan operation

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Ground Forces Quds base said Thursday that it killed six members of a militant group in an operation in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran.

According to a statement from the Quds base's public relations office, the operation was conducted after the unit received public reports and established what it described as "precise intelligence dominance." The statement said a terrorist team intending to carry out an operation in the region was identified and struck.

The Guard Corps said six members of what it called a takfiri terrorist group were killed in the operational action. Authorities also said they discovered and seized a number of explosive packages during the operation.

Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has been the site of recurring clashes between Iranian security forces and armed groups for years. Iranian authorities have accused some armed groups operating in the country of having links to foreign powers and involvement in cross-border smuggling, though the statement provided no additional details supporting these allegations.

The clearing operation was described as ongoing at the time of the announcement. The statement did not provide the identities of those killed or further details about the course of the operation.
