Rose Lavelle has agreed to a contract extension with Gotham FC that will keep her with the NWSL club through the 2029 season, the team announced Tuesday. The extension replaces her previous deal, which was set to expire at the end of the 2026 season.
The 31-year-old midfielder joined Gotham FC prior to the 2024 season and delivered a defining performance in the club's 2025 championship run. Lavelle scored the game-winning goal in the 2025 NWSL Championship and earned Championship MVP honors for her contributions. Her standout season led to her selection as U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year, and she is the only American player nominated for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
During her tenure with Gotham FC, Lavelle has helped the club capture both the NWSL Championship and the Concacaf W Champions Cup in 2025. The club has positioned her as a centerpiece of its roster and described her as a world-class midfielder.
"I'm incredibly happy to extend my time with Gotham FC," Lavelle said in a statement. "From the moment I arrived, this club has challenged me to keep growing and has given me the opportunity to compete for championships alongside a great group of players and staff. I'm really proud of what we've accomplished together, but I feel like there is still so much ahead of us. I'm excited to continue building something special here."
The extension secures Lavelle's future with the New York-area club beyond what would have been a significant free agency period. Without the deal, she would have become one of the most high-profile free agents available ahead of the 2027 campaign.
Lavelle will remain with Gotham FC through the club's planned relocation of home matchdays to the new Etihad Park in Queens, a transition set to begin in the 2028 season.
