Jannik Sinner won the Miami Open Masters 1000 title Sunday, defeating Czech player Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in a final marked by rain delays at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
The second-ranked player in the ATP standings claimed his second Masters 1000 trophy of the year following his Indian Wells victory earlier in March. The win marks Sinner's first Sunshine Double—the achievement of winning both Indian Wells and Miami in the same calendar year—a distinction previously held by eight men on the professional tour.
Sinner's performance was historically significant in one respect: he became the first man to win the Sunshine Double without losing a set. The last player to achieve the Sunshine Double was Roger Federer in 2017. Federer also accomplished the feat in 2005 and 2006, though he dropped sets in those victories.
Weather conditions affected the match's progression. Rain delayed the start of the final and forced a suspension of approximately one hour and a half at the beginning of the second set. Despite the interruptions, Sinner maintained control throughout, breaking Lehecka's serve at key moments to secure both sets by identical 6-4 scores.
Lehecka, ranked 22nd in the ATP standings, was unable to mount a sustained challenge. In the second set, Sinner generated a break point that proved decisive, allowing him to serve for the championship.
With this victory, Sinner has now won at least three consecutive Masters 1000 titles, joining Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as the only players to achieve that milestone. Djokovic's best streak in the category consisted of four consecutive Masters 1000 titles.
Sinner had previously reached the Miami final twice before, losing in 2021 and 2023, before capturing his first Miami title in 2024. He has now won the tournament twice in three years.
The Italian remains second in the ATP rankings behind Carlos Alcaraz, who was eliminated in the third round by Sebastian Korda. Sinner has accumulated 26 tournament victories in his career, including six Masters 1000 titles across different events.
