President Donald Trump announced he will not attend Super Bowl LIX, scheduled for February 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, according to an interview with the New York Post published January 24.
Trump cited the distance from Washington as the primary reason for his absence. "It's simply too far," he said in the interview. "I've had incredible receptions at the Super Bowl, they like me. I would go if, you know, it was a little closer."
The president also expressed opposition to the halftime performers selected for the event. Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican reggaeton artist, and Green Day, an American rock band, are scheduled to perform during the halftime show. Trump stated he was "against" both artists, citing their critical stances toward his government.
