President Donald Trump posted a video Thursday on Truth Social containing AI-generated imagery depicting former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as primates, drawing criticism from Democratic officials and international politicians.
The video, slightly over one minute long, shows the faces of the Obamas superimposed onto primate bodies with a palm tree background, accompanied by the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." The offensive imagery appears at approximately the 59-second mark of the video.
The video was originally created by a user account on X, @xerias_x, which has approximately 45,900 followers and is aligned with Trump. A watermark from that account appears overlaid on the section containing the primate imagery.
Beyond the offensive imagery, the video repeats false claims about Dominion Voting Systems, a vote-counting company. Trump has previously alleged that the company contributed to him losing the 2020 presidential election in Pennsylvania.
