Qamile Marra of Albania is believed to be the world's oldest living woman at 117 years old, according to her identity documents and recent reporting. Born August 19, 1909, she is two days older than Ethel Caterham of Britain, who is currently recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living woman.
Marra's family has contacted Guinness World Records to have her age verified and her record claim assessed. They have provided documentation supporting her birth date, including a birth certificate issued retroactively in 1945, a passport from 1978, and a current national identity card—all showing the same birth date of August 19, 1909.
Living in the village of Ferras near Kucove, approximately 80 kilometres from the capital Tirana, Marra maintains an active daily routine despite her advanced age. Each morning she rises early, feeds her chickens, sweeps her yard, and drinks her morning coffee. She was born during the period of Ottoman rule and has lived through major historical periods in Albania, including turning 36 shortly before the end of World War II and surviving Albania's communist dictatorship.
In interviews, Marra has expressed that proving her status as the world's oldest woman is not her primary concern. She has also noted the challenges of dealing with Albanian pension authorities regarding verification of her identity and continued existence. Her focus remains on enjoying her daily life in her village home.
