Iran's Revolutionary Guards released a 25-page open letter addressed to American voters on Tuesday, urging them to reject President Donald Trump's policies ahead of the US midterm elections scheduled for November.
The letter appeals to voters to oppose US support for Israel and foreign military interventions, arguing that Iran and the United States could coexist peacefully if American policy changed. The Guards, whose power and influence have expanded since the US and Israel pursued military action against Iran, framed the letter as a direct appeal to the American people rather than a propaganda effort.
IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi told reporters at a press conference in Tehran that the letter addresses the real reasons behind attacks on Iran and explains the causes of US global military aggression and support for Israel. Mohebbi stated that the Guards believe Americans are unfamiliar with Tehran's perspective and that the letter aims to present Iran's views with sincerity and logic.
The letter accuses Trump of concealing the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programme, which Israel views as an existential threat. It also references the effectiveness of Tehran's blockade of Gulf oil. According to reports, Mohebbi characterized Trump as a "big liar" and claimed the United States failed militarily and was forced to withdraw from the region.
Mohebbi said he did not expect the letter to affect US administration policy. He noted that the US conducts propaganda through approximately 200 television channels and 100 radio stations, contrasting this with the Guards' direct appeal to the American public.
The full contents of the letter have not yet been publicly released due to its length and the need for processing. The appeal comes more than a month before the midterm elections, in which control of Congress will be determined. Polls indicate the opposition Democratic Party has significant chances of taking control of the House of Representatives, while the outcome for Senate control remains uncertain.
